Bookwalter Binge Gran Fondo

The Bookwalter Binge Gran Fondo offers a unique opportunity to test your ability alongside some of the top men and women riders in the sport of professional bicycle racing on a very demanding route. While the Bookwalter Binge is not a race, all three routes (83, 62 & 30 miles) include timed mountain climbing sections that allow you to race the clock. Overall prizes will be awarded based on your performance in the timed sections only (overall time for the entire route is not recorded).

All routes include aid stations staffed by local bicycle shops and volunteers that will offer food, sport drink and water. The route will not be closed to motor vehicle traffic and course marshals will be stationed along the route to help cyclists navigate some intersections. Support & Gear (SAG) volunteers will provide support along the route.

The Bookwalter Binge routes were created to be extremely challenging. You will be riding through stunning scenery painted with colorful fall foliage. Located just 10 miles east of Asheville, visiting Black Mountain allows you to experience the hospitality and charm of a small mountain village with easy access to one of the country’s hottest tourist destinations, Asheville NC.

Enjoy your accomplishment when you arrive at the finish line at Pisgah Brewing Company to find local brews on tap and a delicious lunch. Spend your afternoon chatting with the pros and take some time to learn more about the charity partner for this event. Representatives from The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy will be on site to answer questions about their programs and facilities.

Created by Brent and Jamie Bookwalter, the mission of the Bookwalter Binge is to conserve the land that makes cycling in Western North Carolina a beautiful experience. Funds raised at this event will benefit The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, a non-profit that has been conserving land for more than 40 years.

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy is one of the country’s oldest and most respected land trusts. Founded in 1974 as a non-profit, charitable organization, SAHC works to conserve the beautiful views, challenging trails, habitat for songbirds and wildlife, pristine streams for thriving trout and recreation, and family farms producing local food for culinary delights. We achieve this by forging and maintaining long-term conservation relationships with private landowners and public agencies, owning and managing land, and encouraging healthy local communities. The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy has helped ensure the protection of more than 68,000 acres throughout the region.
